Communications for Smart Grids

Communication systems play a crucial role in the smart grid concept, providing necessary reliable operation of a power system, networking of power system components as well as various electronic devices and offering new services at the energy market. The requirements for such systems significantly differ from the traditional telecom systems in the sense of necessary higher quality of service (QoS).

Smart Grids domain became an area for interdisciplinary research since equipment involves many new devices ranging from sensors to metering equipment as well as signal processing for huge amounts of data gathered with these devices.

The goal of the special session is share and exchange research results and current activities on communication technologies serving to smart grids. It is expected that special session will gather professionals from Communications, Electrical engineering, Computer engineering and Power engineering domains and offer opportunity for discussions and exchange of ideas.

Original submissions are solicited on topic related to the R&D issues, available solutions, past and current experiences, recent standardization and regulative activities.
